Manchester and the Debris Permit

Manchester, the Coffee County seat, has 12,212 people and one rule none of our other towns publish: a city Debris Permit before remodeling debris leaves the property. It’s about 74 minutes from our base in Lewisburg.

What is Manchester’s Debris Permit?

It’s the city’s sign-off before construction or remodeling debris is removed, and before tree debris a contractor trimmed goes out too. The Street Department (931-728-6903) sets the rule. Its waste disposal page doesn’t spell out whether the permit covers a load a private crew hauls off or only what the city collects, so call and ask before the tear-out starts. We found no separate demolition permit for the city.

What the city collects

Appliances go out on your regular collection day, empty, with the doors off. Stumps aren’t taken. Tires are limited to 8 a year per household.

Coffee County’s tire rule matches that 8: free for the first eight a year, then $2 per passenger tire, Thursdays at 2180 Murfreesboro Hwy (931-723-5139).

County convenience centers

Beech Grove, at 90 Oscar Crowell Rd, and Belmont, at 4120 New Tullahoma Hwy, are for rural Coffee County residents only. The county doesn’t post their hours or what they accept. Inside the city, the Street Department’s pickup is the public option, with the rules above.

Our work in Manchester

The Debris Permit catches yard work too. If a tree service left the limbs and trunk sections in a pile, the city wants that permit before they go anywhere, so ask about it before we load them.

Once the permit question is settled, we do the kitchen and bathroom tear-outs and the hauling. A fridge you don’t want to strip and drag to the curb, or a garage of junk, is junk removal. Manchester is also home to Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park, a roughly 2,000-year-old earthwork at 732 Stone Fort Dr. We also move households in and out of Manchester. For the city that shares Coffee County with it, see Tullahoma.

Manchester questions, answered

Do I need a Debris Permit in Manchester TN?

Yes, before construction or remodeling debris is removed, according to the Manchester Street Department, and also for tree debris a contractor trimmed. Call the department at 931-728-6903 to get one and to ask whether it applies when a private crew hauls the load. Then we can do the tear-out and haul.

How do I put an old refrigerator out for pickup in Manchester?

Empty it, take the doors off, and set it out on your regular collection day; that’s the Manchester Street Department’s rule for appliances. Call 931-728-6903 with questions. If you’d rather not strip it and drag it to the curb yourself, we can carry it out and haul it away.

How many tires can I get rid of in Manchester each year?

Eight per household per year, under both the city’s rule and Coffee County’s. The county takes the first 8 free, then charges $2 per passenger tire, on Thursdays at 2180 Murfreesboro Hwy (931-723-5139). The city doesn’t collect stumps at all, so plan those separately.

Can city residents use the Coffee County convenience centers in Manchester?

Probably not: the Beech Grove and Belmont centers, at 90 Oscar Crowell Rd and 4120 New Tullahoma Hwy, are for rural Coffee County residents only. The county doesn’t list their hours or accepted items. Manchester residents rely on the city Street Department’s collection, 931-728-6903, or a private crew.
